Schneider Electric Looks Toward the Future of Security

Schneider Electric is a company in the midst of a change, according to U.S. Company President Jeff Drees.

“New investors, new competitors, customers see us differently,” Drees said while presenting the state of the company to about 40 journalists at a press event in Chicago last week.

No longer is the company only seen as the world’s largest producer of circuit breakers. Companies like IBM and Cisco are viewing Schneider as both competitor and partner.

At the event, I learned that the company is structured into five businesses across the globe, which includes IT, power, industry, buildings and energy. The security segment falls under the buildings business. The end market for the buildings business includes retail, hotel, healthcare, offices and government.

One big thing the company touted was the rising importance of its security segment, now integrated into the building business. This includes Pelco, which Schneider acquired back in 2007.
