Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

For those looking for an attractive phone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc probably fills the gap. The device seems impossibly slim at only 8.7mm and also looks amazing due to its slim bezel and its curved back – hence the name the Arc. The device looks very attractive and is individual and yet very usable at the same time. The device comes with three button set across its bottom and it is minimalist and pretty.
Sony Ericsson have given the device a 1GHz single core processor, which may seem a little limited in these days of large dual core processors and with the potential stream of quad core devices on the horizon, this may seem even more outdated. However, the phone is quite fast and there can be no real qualms about its pace.
The device comes with a 4.2 inch display that cuts so close to the glass, it can be hard to believe it is even covered. The Arc also comes with the excellent BRAVIA Reality Display. The technology which comes directly from the Japanese company’s excellent TV screens looks fantastic and ensures that the device offers some of the best contrasts and shadow detail available on a phone. The display is also great in bright light and the brightness settings don’t even have to be set to full for comfortable viewing.
The phone’s other major forte is its camera. The device includes an 8.1mp camera with one of the Exmor R sensors that are available on the Sony compact cameras. These sensors ensure the Sony Xperia Arc is capable of taking photos to a similar quality to that of compact cameras. The camera on the Arc is also capable of 1080p recording which all looks very impressive on the phone’s excellent display.
Sony Ericsson has used Android 2.3 on the phone, which is also a great bonus considering their penchant to use older operating systems in previous phones. This move and the leap away from adding a lot of their own software and user interface tweaks to phones has ensured the device is a good quality phone with few irritating tweaks.
Overall Sony Ericsson has done well with this device and when compared to some of their previous efforts it is an excellent phone. It does lack a bit of power, although this has been rectified by the Xperia Arc S which offers a boost in processing power. The Arc S comes with a faster 1.4GHz chip while keeping much of the original design the same. The Arc S should give an extra boost to the smartphone that should put Sony Ericsson back on the mobile phone map.
